Retail sales in Rhode Island have performed extremely well for years. Recent growth rates have been especially impressive, often at or near double-digit rates. While such rates might appear to be unsustainable, the addition of the Providence Place Mall, which will prevent many Rhode Islanders from shopping out-of-state, should allow Rhode Island to sustain the strong retail sales growth to which it has become accustomed of late.
